Dan Go
My name is Dan Go and I love life. I used to work in a sleazy corporate bank called Wells Fargo and I hated it. At that time I pretty much hated my life. Then a fork in the road came: I was to either choose to teach English in Japan OR start a career that I knew I would love in fitness training. I chose the latter and haven't looked back ever since. Being from an asian family I pretty much was told from everyone that, "It was a stupid decision" and "You need something more stable..." and "You don't know what you are doing..." I used all of the negativity thrown at me as fire to succeed. Every time I would think about quitting I would hear those words and work harder to prove them wrong. Getting pissed off is always a good motivator. I started my fitness career like most trainers: In a big box gym. That got boring so I traded up to becoming an independent traveling personal trainer and working in my own business. I then realized that my business model was really flawed and that training groups was where it is at and will be for the next 50 years. I currently own a women's fitness camp http://www.GoGirlbootcamps.com and a corporate fitness camp http://www.Gopersonalfitness.com. I am making the move from a trainer that trains "in" his business to a trainer that "owns" his business. I have 4 camps running with two more corporate camps opening up in February. My ultimate business goal is to build a business that sustains itself without having me "in" it. I want to travel the world as well as learn more about all aspects of human life in general. My business is the vehicle to do that for me. 2. How has being a part of PTU impacted your career / business? I wouldn't be where I am if I wasn't on PTU. I started out on PTU 3-4 years ago. It really helped me make the jump to owning my own business. You also get to have your questions answered by proven practitioners like Pat Rigsby, Jim Labadie, Nick Berry, BJ Gaddour, Chris Mccombs, Greg Justice etc...this is big time. It's like getting mentored by the best in the industry for $19.95 a month. You also get to be around people all over the world who have similar goals. It's like a huge fitness mastermind group. Everyone is supportive and willing to give you the goods! You get to answer other people's questions as well, sharpening your own business mind in the process. I try to help others out as much as possible because I know that the information I give out will be further ingrained into my own head making me a better business owner. I have used all the articles to help systemize my business, increase my sales, increase my leads. I pretty much developed my business modeling the best people PTU had to offer. Just last year I went from being an independent trainer, no employees, working 6 hours a day making decent money to today where I own 4 fitness boot camps with two more in the next month, working in my business 8 hours a week, one employee with possibly two more coming on board, making more money and seeing potential for more profit down the road. I thank all of this to the people I talk to on a regular basis on PTU as well as the Boot Camp Blueprint. 3. What are your 3 biggest tips for your fellow PTU Members? Just 3 tips? I'll try... 1. Invest in your education I have found a direct correlation between investing money into my education and seeing an increase in my income. It seems that the more money I put into education, the more money I make. And the money I make is not final. With each program I have bought I have regularly made 20x my investment back because the money that comes from the knowledge I have learned is recurring, meaning that every year I recoup my investment over and over and over. It also pays to model your business after ones that are already successful. It would have taken me years to get to where I am now if I didn't have Pat, Nick, Jim, BJ, Chris McCombs and everyone else on PTU's knowledge to model my business after. Someone has been there before. Leverage their knowledge and you will be making more money. Also don't forget to read the free stuff as well: - Pat Rigsby's email newsletter - Jim Labadies email newsletter - Chris Mccombs blog Tons of amazing free info and motivation! 2. Have the mindset of planning your business to support the lifestyle you want. Not the other way around. This is something I am working towards on a consistent basis. For me, a business is meant to push you towards me towards my ideal lifestyle. As much as I love training, it doesn't beat having the freedom to do what I want when I want to do it. I started all this by reading the 4 Hour Work Week by Tim Ferris' (a must read for all lifestyle designers or New Rich as he calls it). I used to make my goals all about income. Now it's about living the life that I want. The income is just the means to get there. As I sit here and build my business I try to keep in mind what I am really doing this for and that is to live my life to the fullest while making a difference. 3. Always write out your goals. I write out my 4 main goals almost daily as daily affirmations. I don't expect you to be as anal as I am but you definitely have to write out your goals and be clear about what you want to accomplish. You can't just keep them in your mind. Put them on paper. It has a weird subconscious spiritual way of coming true. And it always focuses your mind on what is important. Bonus... 4. Before you go to bed, write out a to do list with 2-3 things that you need to get done to move you forward. This is something that rich people do and it's something I have started to do in the past few months. It really gets you going in the right direction and always moving forward.
