1. Tell us about yourself and your business. I live in a very rural part of the country: Northeast Vermont. And no that isn't Burlington. Think border with New Hampshire and Canada. Growing up in Maine, I was very used to a rural setting and feel like I know the people well. That might be my greatest asset in creating relationships with my clients and potential clients. Northeastern Vermont wasn't a destination spot by any means, it was my wife, Lisa who got a job at a Therapeutic Boarding School that led us up here. Four years after moving, we are planted deep in the community, and see it as a great place for our 17 month old son Zach to grow up and for our two other kids, dogs Ivy and Sierra to run and play. I started running bootcamps in fall of 2006 after the first Ryan Lee Bootcamp. The idea of group training was a complete no-brainer to me, so at no point was I hesitant. I jumped in running my first bootcamp in November 2006 and added a location in January of 2007. At the time I started, I had no clue what I was going to do for work up here in the woods. Personal training wasn't going to pay the bills by any means, and frankly, I didn't want to work in a gym. Long story short, now I run a six figure bootcamp business in a town of 4000 people, by coming in and doing things much differently and much better than anyone else in our state. 2. How has being a part of PTU impacted your career / business? Being a part of PTU has allowed me to stay in touch with hundreds of very successful fitness experts, business owners, and minds. The only interaction with professionals of this caliber is over the phone or via PTU. In my busy day, going on PTU is a daily requirement to get feedback, help others, or generate new ideas. I get motivated from the stories and a little on edge, being the competitive person I am. I want to be able to do it better than anyone else, and even though I know that is a tall task, I also know that mindset has gotten my business where it is today. All of that has its roots in PTU. 3. What are your 3 biggest tips for your fellow PTU Members? 1. Get off your butt and get stuff done. Don't sit and wallow and think about stuff. Take action and lots of it daily. The most successful people in PTU or any business for that matter are the ones that are getting stuff done. 2. Don't accept the status quo. Challenge things you don't agree with, and challenge the ones you do. Do not accept everything you hear. Find ways to do things that are unique. That doesn't mean to reinvent the wheel. A lot of things should be copied and replicated. I mean find new ways of looking at the same thing to grow your business and expand your mind. 3. Manage your time relentlessly. Don't waste time. Time is the only non-renewable resource we have, so make each moment count.
